Summary: Techfinology is designed with a privacy-first, local-first architecture. Your uploaded portfolio files (Fidelity, Webull, CSV/Excel exports) and custom financial settings are parsed and stored strictly within your own browser session. The only data collected is anonymous, cookieless usage analytics (Umami) used to improve the site. We do not sell, track, or monetise your financial data.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

We believe your financial holdings and portfolio data are strictly personal. When using our application:

No Personal Financial Records Stored on Servers: Uploaded CSV/Excel portfolio spreadsheets are parsed in memory and returned to your browser. We do not maintain a server database of your stock quantities, account balances, or transaction histories.
No User Account Creation: We do not require you to register, log in with an email address, or provide personal identifying information (PII) to analyze stock financials.
No Advertising Trackers: We do not deploy third-party advertising trackers, cross-site profiling tools, or behavioral advertising cookies. We use a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service (Umami) to understand aggregate usage — see Section 4.

2. Data Stored Locally in Your Browser

To provide a seamless experience without requiring a server account, certain preferences and portfolio snapshots are cached locally on your device via localStorage and sessionStorage:

Saved Portfolios: Your imported portfolio stock allocations and custom column view choices are stored locally so you can return to them anytime via the "Open saved portfolio" feature.
DCF & Filter Preferences: Custom growth rate overrides, discount rate assumptions, valuation model parameters, and table filter selections (such as Market Cap or ROE filters) are stored locally in your browser.
Theme Preferences: Dark / light mode appearance choices.

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's local site storage or clicking browser cache clear options.

3. Information Processed via Public Financial APIs

When searching for public companies or loading valuation metrics:

Public SEC Filings (EDGAR): Requests for 10-K financial statements, company profiles, and filings query official public SEC EDGAR endpoints.
Market Data: Stock pricing and market capitalization data are fetched from public financial feeds strictly to perform intrinsic value calculations (e.g. Discounted Cash Flow models).

4. Anonymous Usage Analytics (Umami)

To understand how visitors use the site and improve it, we run a self-hosted, privacy-friendly analytics service called Umami. It is cookieless and does not require consent banners under GDPR.

No Cookies: Umami does not set tracking cookies. It stores a small, non-identifying random value in your browser's localStorage to count you as a distinct visitor across pages.
No Personal Data: We do not collect your name, email, IP address, or any other personal identifying information. IP addresses are only used to derive an approximate country/region and are not stored.
What is Collected: Aggregate usage data including page URL and title, referrer, browser type, device type, operating system, screen resolution, language, approximate country, and timestamp.
Opt-Out: You can disable tracking in your browser by running localStorage.setItem('umami.disabled', 1); in the developer console, or by blocking requests to analytics.techfinology.us.

5. Optional Integrations & Developer Features

If you explicitly configure optional API integrations (such as Alpaca trading credentials in settings):

API keys are used strictly to communicate directly with the chosen service on your request and are never transmitted to unauthorized third parties.

6. Security of Your Data

Since your portfolio data resides on your own local device, security is backed by your device and web browser's standard security policies. We recommend keeping your web browser updated and securing your personal device.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our application features or legal requirements. Any modifications will be posted directly on this page with an updated date.
